What type of evacuations can International SOS undertake?
- Patients with medical conditions: whereby a patient develops a medical condition that cannot be managed with the appropriate standard in the location they are currently based. For critically ill patients, we transport them via air ambulances - a dedicated aircraft, equipped with a stretcher, ventilators, oxygen, patient support system, medications etc. This provides the patient with advance hospital care even in the air, or what some refer to as "ICU in the sky".
- Patients with infectious diseases: infectious patients that require transportation on an air ambulance, with a portable isolation unit. In 2003 during the SARS outbreak, we developed the PMIU (Portable Medical Isolation Unit), the world's first solution, which block air infection. During COVID-19, we have performed numerous transportations of 100 COVID-19 positive patients with our PMIU.
- Personnel Evacuation: For entirely healthy individuals who require help to leave their current location because of concerns about various crises or natural disasters and limited commercial flight options.
