COMCOVER'S INTERNATIONAL SOS TRAVEL RISK MANAGEMENT
RESOURCE PORTAL
International SOS provides a range of overseas medical and travel assistance (OMTA) services for Comcover Fund Members including their managers, international travellers, expatriates (declared spouses and dependants). Commonwealth travel risk stakeholders (risk, insurance, travel, HR, WHS, security and finance) are encouraged to leverage available resources to train staff and build travel risk awareness within their own Commonwealth entities.
Review the International SOS Members Portal to complete your travel risk assessment by identifying the medical and security risks and the recommended controls to keep staff safe. Subscribe to International SOS alerts for any country or our risk forecasting reports.

This is an essential tool for preparing, informing and keeping your people safe. App benefits include: mobile access to country specific (medical & security) risk information and alerts; ability to call the closest assistance centre (24/7); share location (check-in) when travelling to high-risk destinations; and seamless integration with Tracker and CTM.
Tracker automatically delivers pre-departure information to travellers based on their CTM booking data and allows managers to find and communicate with them in emergencies. Automated reports and online dashboards keep managers informed and travellers safe.
Nearly 12,000 multi-cultural security, medical, logistics and digital experts are available to provide support & assistance to Fund Members from over 1,200 locations in 91 countries, 24/7, 365 days in over 100 languages and dialects. Contact the Sydney Assistance Centre(đź“ž+61 2 9372 2468 or âś‰ sydney@internationalsos.com) if you have any questions, concerns and/or personal health safety queries (LGBTQI+, solo female, pre-existing medical conditions) prior to departure. There is no additional cost to access International SOS and Comcover recommends engaging us early and often if mobile staff feel unwell or unsafe. In the event they require support, International SOS will coordinate with Comcover to request authorisation for expenses to support their care. See below for reasons to call International SOS.
DOES YOUR FUND MEMBER USE INTERNATIONAL SOS TRACKER?
Value to Commonwealth Senior Executive Service

International SOS ensures all Comcover Fund Members international travellers and expatriates have access to 24/7 medical and security information, advice and support but the onus is on the traveller to review our intelligence, subscribe to alerts and confirm their safety in the event of an emergency. This poses a significant Duty of Care gap under Comcare’s updated psychological hazard legislation in relation to remote work (international travel) as there is no record of delivering travel risk information (incl. mitigations) by the Fund Member nor communications framework for managing.  To address this gap while reducing financial and reputational risk, Comcover allows Fund Members to opt-into International SOS’ Tracker (at no additional cost) which automates these Duty of Care activities, improves the traveller experience, manager productivity and crisis response.

Value to Commonwealth Directors and Managers

Tracker automates routine pre-departure tasks such as sourcing country risk guides and signing up for alerts through the delivery of a Pre-Travel Advisory Email to travellers. This saves time and ensures a consistent approach to travel risk management, especially if travel is infrequent or if there is staff turnover (loss of corporate knowledge). Managers and Directors can monitor their traveller’s risk exposure using interactive dashboards to answer ad-hoc travel risk queries (i.e. Do we have any travellers in the U.S after an adverse event)? If travellers are impacted by immediate threats to their safety, Tracker will automatically request they confirm their safety status and notify managers of responses received, enabling a swifter and more robust crisis response.

How does a Comcover Fund Member sign-up to Tracker?

International SOS’ Tracker is free for all Comcover Members but does require a one page opt-in form to be completed in order to activate the service. Learn more or contact your International SOS Account Manager

BEST PRACTICE TRAVEL RISK MANAGEMENT (FUND MEMBERS WITH TRACKER)
International SOS recommends Comcover Fund Members using Tracker regularly review the following check-list to ensure Tracker is optimised and they are prepared to manage a traveller related incident or crisis.

  • Confirm travel risk management roles and responsibilities internally:
  • Pre-Travel (Risk assessment, approvals, briefing, compliance)
  • During Travel (monitoring emerging medical and security risks)
  • In an Emergency (who manages a crisis response)
  • Review current Tracker users and automated report recipients by lodging a request with your International SOS Account Manager. Complete the Tracker Configuration Form based on your updated user and reporting requirements. Tip: We recommend using inboxes/distribution lists for report recipients.
  • Ensure any internal travel risk related intranet reference your unique International SOS Traveller Checklist. If you do not have this please request a copy from your International SOS Account Manager
  • If your Fund Member has expatriates, ensure they are manually uploaded to Tracker using these instructions
BEST PRACTICE TRAVEL RISK MANAGEMENT (FUND MEMBERS WITHOUT TRACKER)
International SOS recommends Fund Members not using Tracker to incorporate the Traveller Checklist below into any internal resources such as intranet pages and policies.
